Before, the zaps happened mostly when I shifted positions now, they are torturously inconsistent and somehow even more painful Tuesday late evening: Took another two benadryl and one advil, plus sativa oil again. From about 2pm-5pm I was writhing in pain in my apartment, basically sobbing and walking back and forth between the shower and the couch with zero patience left Tuesday evening: The zaps were fading at this point, but are happening at completely unpredictable times. Didn't feel anything until my bike ride back I had to pull over just to scream and cry and get control of my body again. Found this sub, read every single post, promptly took a scalding hot shower to wash off the cream, found some short-term relief there Tuesday afternoon: Due to heatwave, biked to the beach to dip in the water (covered up my back completely, plus sunscreen, which slightly irritated my back but not badly).

Skin immediately acted up again on the cream. Took 2 regular strength benadryl, one advil, used the cream. Hobbled to the pharmacy early and got benadryl and hydrocortisone cream, which the pharmacist suggested. Hoards of fire ants with electric jackhammers pummelling my back. Sudden and very, very painful Monday evening: Took an advil and some indica oil, slept poorly but mostly because of heat Tuesday morning: Horrible. Monday afternoon: Consistently feeling zaps on my mid-lower back whenever I shift positions especially from lying down to sitting up again. Almost exactly 48 hours after exposure to sun. Starting to feel the pins and needles there. Was outside for maybe three hours Sunday: Life as per usual Monday morning: I can see a very faint sunburn on my mid-lower back. Saturday late morning: Went to the beach. I thought it would be helpful to provide a timeline and see how it compares to other experiences with this absolutely fucked condition. I had my first experience with Hell's Itch these last two days.

The mod is also not very active here, so feel free to use the report button if there are any issues. The sub may not be very active, (especially in the winter), but every post counts. The purpose of this subreddit is to hopefully become a nexus for those that have experienced this dermal oddity, share information, studies, news, and remedies. It typically happens with a mild sunburns well away from blistering, however more severe burns can result in an itch lasting almost a week. This is not sun poisoning, nor is it an allergic reaction.

The condition can last anywhere from 12 to 48 hours, where the first day is always the worst, and is gone as if it had never shown up. It can be fierce enough to cause muscle spasms, but in most cases, the experience is best described as truly maddening. Reliably 2-3 days after a reasonably mild (non-blistering) sun burn. A swarm of fire ants biting you from the inside.Īcute, unimaginable, itching that occurs in short, intense waves. Described as having razor sharp sand paper rubbing beneath your skin.
